How to Stop Ads in Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo Messenger is a free instant messenger service available from Yahoo that allows you to send and receive text messages in real time from other users of Yahoo Messenger. Other features include voice chat, file transfer, email, and real-time stock quotes, sports scores and news. Because Yahoo Messenger is a free service, Yahoo places advertisements in the Messenger and in the individual chat windows. It is possible, however, to remove all ads from the Yahoo Messenger by editing its registry.

Instructions

1. Restart your PC and log on as an administrator. Make sure you are not logged on to Yahoo Messenger and the program is closed. Click the "Start" button at then type "regedit" in the search bar and press "Enter." Click "Yes" to open the Registry Editor.

2. Select the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" registry key in the left pane of the Registry Editor window to expand the folder. Now select and expand the "Software" folder. Select and expand the "Yahoo" folder and then click and expand the "Pager" folder. Select "Locale."

3. Select the value "Enable Messenger Ad" in the right pane of the Registry Editor program. Change the value to "0" and click "Ok" to save the changes.

4. Restart and log on to Yahoo Messenger. Your Yahoo Messenger is now ad free.
