How to Become a Driving Instructor in New South Wales
To become a driving instructor in New South Wales, Australia, you must first meet a certain set of eligibility criteria. If you are eligible, you will also be required to pass a number of tests and examinations, including a medical assessment and eyesight test. You must be able to prove that you are a capable and competent motorist yourself, and also that you have the patience and aptitude to teach student drivers.

Assess your eligibility to become a driving instructor in New South Wales. The regulations that apply to the regional are also those of its nation, Australia.
To be eligible to become a driving instructor, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
1) Is at least 21 years of age
2) Is the holder of a driving licence of the relevant vehicle class they wish to instruct in
3) Has held a full, unblemished version of that licence for three continuous years in the four years prior to the application; and
4) Has been authorized to become a driving instructor (this occurs through further assessment)

Complete the documents and checks required to become a licence holder.
These documents include the driving instructor application form (RTA form 239), passing a medical check (RTA form 239), pass police and criminal checks (RTA forms 1183/1184), supply two matching signatures and four passport-sized photos.

Pass the two tests - theory and practical.
In order to gain your instructor's licence, you must pass a theory test comprising 90 questions followed by a practical test which you must pass at 95 percent. The theory examination is an assessment of your expertise as a driver, as well as examining your qualities as a teacher in the driving environment. The practical test is similar to a driving test, only the standards you must meet are set at a particularly high level---you must be an expert driver in order to qualify.
Only after you successfully complete these two assessments will you receive a letter of eligibility from the Road and Traffic Authority (RTA). You cannot enrol on an instructor course until you have received this letter.

Enrol on an instructor course. It is believed that it will take a minimum of six months for training driving instructors to study the course, as they study for the Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport - Car Driving instruction) Those studying to become heavy goods or motorcycle instructors study separate, specific courses.
At the end of the course potential driving instructors must pass a final assessment. You will carry out your assessment in the classification of vehicle in which you wish to instruct, and will be required to demonstrate all of the necessary skills and aptitudes as both an expert motorist and as a competent instructor.
Once you have passed this assessment and paid your licence fee, you will receive an instructor's licence, which is valid for five years. You are now a driving instructor in New South Wales.
