How to Publish a Web Page With iWeb

Create and publish your website with iWeb and MobileMe.

Create and publish your own website within minutes using Apple's iWeb software. IWeb, which comes pre-installed on your Mac computer, contains many templates to choose from and makes it simple to link your pages together. Apple's MobileMe service hosts your website. Create an account with MobileMe to publish your site to the web. You can also use another hosting service to publish your website.

Instructions

1. Open iWeb and choose a template. A box pops up with a list of templates to choose from. Look around and select the template you want to use. Each template is set up with eight pages, all with a similar design and layout, including the following: Welcome, About Me, Photos, My Albums, Movie, Blog, Podcast, and Blank.

2. Add your information to the template. Replace the given text by typing over it. Replace images by clicking the image you want to replace and selecting "Insert" and then "Choose" from iWeb's top menu. Locate the image and click "Insert." Your picture replaces the template's picture.

3. Add another page to your site by selecting "File" and then "Select New Page." This opens your eight template options. Select the type of page you want to add.

4. Add photo albums by selecting the Photo Album template page. Add photos to the page by opening iPhoto and then dragging and dropping the photos onto your web page. Drag entire albums or individual pictures into the placeholders on the template page.

5. Link your pages together with hyperlinks. Create hyperlinks between your pages, highlight the phrase you want to hyperlink and select "Insert", then "Hyperlink", then "Webpage" from the top menu. Select one of your pages to hyperlink the phrase to. You can also hyperlink to outside web pages if you select "An external page" and type in the URL.

6. Publish your site on MobileMe. When you finish adding all your pages, select "Publish Site" from the bottom menu. IWeb prompts you to log in or sign up for Apple's MobileMe service. MobileMe hosts iWeb websites. As of July 2010, MobileMe offers a two-month trial, followed by a $99/year subscription for the service. After you log in to MobileMe, iWeb prepares your files for publishing. This step takes a few minutes.

7. View your website by clicking on the URL iWeb provides.
