Salsa and bachata are two types of dance with much in common. Both originated in Latin America, and both are danced with partners for competitions and for fun. Salsa originated in Cuba and has been in the mainstream consciousness for some time through its reputation as a passionate, rhythmic dance. Bachata, from the Dominican Republic originally, is less well-known and more reliant on quick footsteps.
