How to View Progress of a Defragment in Vista

If your Windows Vista hard drive is in the process of being defragmented, this means that the native "Disk Defragmenter" utility of that operating system is open somewhere on your computer. If the window is not being displayed on screen, this means that the program itself has been minimized to the task bar. All you have to do is maximize the window to view the progress of a defragment in the Windows Vista operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Disk Defragmenter" icon on your task bar. This will maximize the "Disk Defragmenter" program window on screen.

    • 2

Move all other program windows out of the way so that you can see the full "Disk Defragmenter" window.

    • 3

Look at the "Progress" column. This will tell you what percentage of your hard drive has already been defragmented.
