How to Repair a LeapFrog LeapPad

How to Repair a LeapFrog LeapPad thumbnail
Replacing the batteries will often repair your LeapFrog LeapPad.

The LeapFrog LeapPad is a portable educational learning system that uses an attached pen, which works much like a mouse pointer. The LeapPad is used with interactive books that the device reads aloud. Alternately, children can use the pen to point to words or pictures, in order to hear pronunciations or sound effects. If your LeapPad system is making strange noises, or does not power on, respond, or function properly, LeapFrog suggests several steps you can take to identify and correct the problem.

    • 1

Check the power adapter and power supply. Make certain all points of contact are connected firmly.

Remove the cartridge. Place the cartridge back in the slot to activate the book. Turn on the LeapPad device and touch the "GO" button with the pen to "activate" each page.

    • 3

If the LeapPad is still not functioning, turn it off and open the battery compartment door using a screwdriver. Remove the batteries.

    • 5

Install new batteries according to the polarity diagram (+/-). Return the battery compartment door, securing it with the screwdriver.
