a Macbook battery should be discharged monthly

You should discharge the battery of your MacBook periodically to recalibrate it and ensure it functions properly. Apple recommends that all users discharge the battery with a new MacBook and repeat the process every few months. If you rarely use the battery power because the computer is plugged in an outlet, you should discharge the battery monthly.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge the MacBook fully using the power adapter. The light on the MagSafe adapter should turn green and battery meter on the screen should read "Charged."

    • 2

Keep the MacBook plugged in and fully charged for a minimum of two hours. Feel free to keep using the computer.

    • 3

Disconnect the MagSafe adapter and leave the MacBook on so it is running off the battery.

    • 4

Save any work when the low battery warning appears on the screen. Keep working on the computer until it goes to sleep.

    • 5

Press the power button on the MacBook to turn it off or just leave it sleeping. Wait five hours or longer.

    • 6

Reconnect the MagSafe adapter and allow the battery to recharge.
