Occasionally, it can be useful to know who your ISP or Internet service provider is. The easiest way to find out is simply to look at your bill, but there are electronic and computerized ways to find out who your ISP is as well. Whether you need this information to compare rates between various ISPs, to run speed tests or for any other reason, finding out your ISP is usually just a few keystrokes away.

Instructions

Open a command prompt. Navigate to "Start" > "Run." Type "cmd" into the run prompt that appears.

Type in the command "tracert" and any real domain name of your choice. The final syntax should read "tracert 'www.somerealwebsite.com'." For instance, if you selected eHow.com, the command would read, "tracert www.ehow.com."

A list of server names will appear. This is the path that your website request takes on its way to the website. The first server that appears is your computer. If you are behind a wireless router, the second will be your router. Finally, the third will belong to your ISP. Tracert will list the server names for you. The name that appears will correspond to your ISP.
