How to Restore from Sleep Mode using a Keyboard thumbnail
A keyboard can take a computer out of sleep mode in seconds.

Sleep mode is a power-saving option most computers automatically go into after a set amount of inactivity. Sleep mode allows the computer to shut off the monitor and close any unnecessary systems while keeping the running programs active so everything is still open when the computer powers back up. Sleep mode allows the computer to restart much faster than a traditional shutdown or restart does. The keyboard is normally used to take a computer out of sleep mode and this is very easy to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for a sleep-specific button near the top of the keyboard. Some computers use a particular key to activate or turn off sleep mode and the key will frequently have a moon symbol on it. Press that key if you locate it.

    • 2

Press any key on the keyboard if a "sleep key" is not located. Without a sleep key, any key pressed on the keyboard will frequently bring the system out of sleep mode.

    • 3

Hold down the power button on the keyboard for about 5 seconds. Laptops in particular frequently use the power button to bring the system out of sleep mode.
