How to Hide Cords on a Monitor Stand

How to Hide Cords on a Monitor Stand thumbnail
Plastic cable ties are inexpensive and they keep cords out of sight.

Hide cords on a monitor stand to give a desk a cleaner look. Visible cords detract from the appearance of a monitor when they are a tangled mess at the base. Entangled cords on monitor stands can be quickly sorted, consolidated and camouflaged to blend into their surroundings. Customize the look of a viewing area by hiding lines that draw the eyes away. Give a monitor all the attention by reducing the visually distracting cords.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the monitor and any source connected to it before unplugging and untangling any of the cords that need to be hidden. Group cords together that are headed in the same direction.

    • 2

Group untangled cords on the monitor stand with cables ties along every 4 to 6 inches of their length. Pull the cable ties snug and trim the excess length with a pair of cutting pliers.

    • 3

Attach adhesive-backed cord clips to the monitor stand along the path you want each group of cords to travel. Connect the cable tie or one of the cables in a group to the cable clips to route the cables out of sight as directly as possible. Color white plastic cable clips with a permanent marker so they match the color of the monitor stand.

    • 4

Cover the grouped cords with flexible tubing or electrical tape. Choose tubing or electrical tape that matches the color of the monitor stand or wall behind the monitor. Cut a long, straight line down the length of the tubing so it can be spread open to cover a group of cords.

Tips & Warnings

  • A few well-placed knickknacks or a small clock can be used to block any small areas where the cords are still visible on the monitor stand.
