Learn how to disable scheduled disk defragmentation.

Disk Defragmenter is a system tool provided by Windows to optimize your computer's performance. This tool can be scheduled to run at regular intervals, however, despite the fact that this means your computer will be maintaining itself, it isn't always the best option to choose. During defragmentation, your computer runs slower, and you aren't able to shut down until the process is complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" button; this is the circle button with the Windows sign in the bottom left of the screen.

    • 2

Click on "Programs," navigate to "Accessories," select "System Tools" and click on "Disk Defragmenter."

    • 3

Uncheck the "Run on a Schedule" box. This will stop the process from running automatically.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your computer is already running the process, click on "Cancel Defragmentation" to stop it.
