How Do I Clean the Finish on My Hardwood Floor If it Is Worn Off?
Hardwood flooring is finished to provide an extra layer of protection for the wood. Hardwood floors that are not finished can absorb liquids and chemicals, which can cause discoloration and wood warping. If the finish on your hardwood floor is worn off, you should clean and care for the hardwood floors in the same manner in which you would care for unfinished floors. Does this Spark an idea?

Use a dust mop, broom or vacuum cleaner to remove dirt, dust and debris.

Fill a bucket with warm water. Dip a mop in the warm water. Wring to remove excess moisture. The mop should be slightly damp, not dripping water. Rub the mop into the hardwood floor to remove grime and spots and stains.

Dampen a cloth or rag with mineral spirits. Rub the cloth into wood following the grain of the wood. Not only does this clean, it provides an extra layer of protection. Mineral spirits should only be used on areas where the finish is completely worn off because it will remove hardwood finish.

Wear rubber gloves and work in a well ventilated room when working with mineral spirits.
