How to Defragment Servers

If you want to defragment a computer server, you need to defragment the particular hard drive that operates that server. Defragmenting moves around files on a hard drive and also changes the way they're stored, which allows your server as well as the Windows operating system to operate more effectively. Luckily, all Windows computers have a native tool for this purpose, which is called "Disk Defragmenter."

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Select "All Programs."

    • 3

      Click "Accessories."

    • 4

      Click "System Tools."

    • 5

Click "Disk Defragmenter." Select the hard drive on your server that you'd like to defragment from the window that pops up, then click "OK."

    • 6

Click on the "Defragment" button to defragment the particular hard drive that operates the server in question.
