In the field provided on the 'Create Your Second Life Personality' screen, enter the first name you wish to use for your avatar. Click the 'Find Last Names' button to choose a last name suitable to your first. After selecting your complete name, enter a 6 to 16 character password that will be used for future verification.

Select a look from the 12 avatars displayed below the password field. Once you click on the desired look, it will appear in full form to the right of the computer screen for your confirmation.

Enter your email address, date of birth and a security question and answer that will be used if you need to retrieve a forgotten password.

Confirm all of the information you added by entering the Security Check words into the provided field. When done, click on the 'Create Account' button. This will send an account activation email to the address you provided.

Locate the Second Life message in your email client. Click on the URL below the sentence 'CLICK HERE TO ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT.' A browser window will open up with notification that your Second Life account has been activated.

If you want to change the initial appearance of the avatar you pick this can be done at the time you enter Second Life's "Welcome Island."
