Customize your iMac's desktop background by changing the default color or theme. IMacs come loaded with a variety of high-definition pictures and colors. You can even import your own for a truly unique background. Set your background colors to change at regular intervals, or repeat a picture with the "Tile" effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Open "System Preferences." Click the icon on your dock, or search for it in your Spotlight search.

    • 2

Click the "Desktop & Screen Saver" icon under the Personal heading at the top of the window.

View the Apple desktop background options by clicking on one of the folders in the left panel. Background colors are located in the "Solid Colors" folder. Click it, and the folder's backgrounds will load to the section on the right. Select one by clicking on it. The background will load to your iMac's desktop.

Exit the Desktop & Screen Saver window by clicking on the "Close" button in the top left corner of the window.
