Home addresses are public record in every city or town. Finding home addresses became easier in recent years with many new options available online, including electronic people searching, Google Maps and property records. GPS can also simplify the search. You can find the home address of nearly anyone, but some addresses may take more effort than others.

Instructions

  1. Find a Home Address with an Online Search

    • 1

Assemble any information you have about the person related to the home address and write it down so you can conduct a systematic search. Make notes as you progress.

    • 2

Use Google or your favorite search engine and put the name of the person or company you are searching for in the search box in quotation marks. Try this with and without the middle name or middle initial, since they will bring up different results. Do the same with an alternate search engine.

    • 3

Try a website that is a people directory to find the address. Dogpile, Peoplefinders and Whitepages are popular. Public-Records-Now may bring up the home address. Use Intelius or a similar service to find names of other members in the household. Check the additional names in search if you recognize them as related to the person. This may find the home address of the person you seek.

    • 4

Search by view. If you are familiar with where the person lives, but do not know the address, you can search Google Maps to find the neighborhood and view the homes from the street. Select an address you know and search for that address. Then move down the street by clicking in the lot for the one you need. Wait for it to load a picture and check the address. Some of these addresses are approximate, so confirm with another method.

    • 5

Contact Vital Records for the state the person lives in. Marriage, divorce, birth and death records are available, sometimes for a minimal fee, and these usually have the home address of record. These records are online for most states.

    • 6

Check to see if the Assessor's Office for the county has online records for property assessments. The property description has the legal description as well as the home address. You can often search by last name or by the name of the street.

    • 7

With the help of a GPS system, determine the latitude and longitude of the site you are interested in, and then use a reverse geocoding website to locate the home address.

    • 8

Search online by telephone number. Place the telephone number with hyphens in the search box of Google and see if the home address is in the search results. This works well for land-line telephones, but may not work for a cell phone number.

    Find a Home Address Offline

    • 9

Use the U.S. Mail to send a letter to the last-known address of the person with instructions on the front that are "Address Correction Requested: Do Not Forward". This letter is returned to you with a new address if the person has filed a change of address within the last year.

    • 10

Review records at the County Clerk's office for the county in which the person resides. This method works if you are in proximity to the person and if the person owns the property.

    • 11

Visit the local Assessor's Office for information if the person owns the home at that address. These records may also be available online.

    • 12

Visit the public library and look for the City Directory or Criss-Cross Directory. Ask at the Reference Desk for suggestions for searching for a home address.
