DIY Bridal Headpiece
Bridal headpieces purchased from boutiques or online retailers cost anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars, as of 2010. Save some money when planning your wedding and create your own bridal headpieces. Customize the headpiece to match your wedding gown, jewelry and wedding theme instead of searching for the perfect match from retailers. Make the headpiece on your own or have a gathering with the bridal party to make the headpieces and discuss other aspects of the wedding. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wrap a section of floral wire around the top of the bride's head. Cut the piece with a wire cutter to measure approximately 2 inches longer than the length around the bride's head. Cut as many pieces as you need, according to how many strands you want to show in the finished headpiece. Three strands provide great support and allow you to braid or shape the wires later. Wrap and cut each piece individually.
-
2
String beads onto the sections of floral wire to decorate the pieces. Use beads of various sizes, in colors to match your wedding dress, jewelry or color themes.

3
Crimp the ends of the floral wires with needle nose pliers to prevent the beads from slipping back off. Use the pliers to shape the wires to curve around the bride's head. Glue larger beads to the wire as necessary to prevent slipping and sliding. Braid the wires or add curves and waves to the blended wires as you wish.
-
4
Use a strong adhesive or hot glue to glue a metal comb onto the curved and beaded wire. Position the comb so it is inside the curve and pointing toward the center; when you wear the headpiece the comb should sit in the front and point toward the back of your head.
-
5
Cut a rectangular piece of tulle material that measures as wide as twice the circumference of the bride's head. Cut the length of the tulle as desired.
-
6
Pinch the tulle to create pleats in the material. Sew the pinched material onto the wire sections using needle and thread. Wrap the thread around the wire, placing the thread between beads to hide the thread from view.
-
7
Attach ribbon and lace to the top of the headpiece as desired. Glue or sew ribbon or lace around the base of the headpiece; string pieces down the veil; or decorate the headpiece further by attaching small, silk flowers to the floral wire.

Tips & Warnings
Purchase extra materials in case you need to re-do the headpiece.
Attach rhinestones to the headpiece wires or the veil to make your headpiece further match your jewelry for the wedding. Use a strong adhesive to attach the rhinestones, like the glue used to apply acrylic nails.
