How to Draw Cute Anime Women

Anime is a type of Japanese animation that has become a popular cartoon art genre worldwide. Anime characters tend to make use of specific characteristics that give the genre its look and appeal. Anime girls often fall into two categories: the experienced warrior woman and the cute anime woman. Once you master the facial shapes and the expressive characteristics of anime characters, you'll be able to combine those elements to create cute anime women.

Instructions

1. Sketch the outline of your anime girl first. Use a No. 2 pencil, and keep the sketch lines light. This initial outline should just set the boundaries of the character you're going to draw. You can erase during later phases of the drawing process to refine this shape as other elements come together.

2. Sharpen the hair. Anime hair is one of the most important elements of anime art. The lines are typically sharp and come to points. For a cute anime woman, draw a short pigtail on either side of the head. Draw the rest of the hair in a jagged outline that comes to points along the hairline.

3. Round out the face. Anime uses two main shapes for faces. For "non-cute" anime characters, the face is triangular and comes to a point toward the chin. Avoid this shape for a cute anime woman. Instead, round out the chin. Draw an almost circular face, then add pencil to the cheek areas and smudge with the corner of an eraser to soften angles of the face.

4. Draw big, round eyes. Draw two large circles, then draw a circle within each of the large circles. Color in the irises, then smudge some of the pencil away in the center of each iris to make the eyes look moist and expressive. Add three or four thin lines above each eye for long lashes.

5. Draw a thin line for your character's mouth. Anime mouths are not typically detailed. A line curved down for a pout or upward for a smile is all you need to draw. Draw a small arched shape line for a nose. This gives your anime character a cute, button-type nose.

6. Draw a light stick representation of the arms, legs and torso as a guide, then sketch a short skirt onto your anime girl. Skirts and loose tops are typical female anime attire. When you've filled in the clothes, draw lines around the stick arms and legs of your character to finish her limbs.
