How to Disable Quicktime on Startup

Quicktime is a digital media playback application by Apple that comes standard with the Mac OS X operating system, but can be downloaded for Windows at no charge. The default installation package (depending on the version) can include Quicktime in the Windows startup menu. However, if you don't use this application often you should disable it from starting at every computer reboot. You can do so using the Windows built-in System Configuration utility.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run," type "msconfig" in the search field and press "Enter" to start the System Configuration utility for Windows XP.

Go to the "Start" menu, type "msconfig" in the "Start Search" box and press "Enter" to start the System Configuration utility for Windows Vista and 7.

    • 2

Click the "Startup" tab in the System Configuration utility's window.

    • 3

Uncheck the box next to "Quicktime," click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the new settings and restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use the Windows Defender program (built-in with Vista and 7) to remove Quicktime from the startup menu.
