Upload and post your resume on job search websites.

Creating a solid resume is a vital step in the process of finding a job. Both job search websites and specific companies in various industries allow (and in some cases prefer) you to post your resume on the Internet rather than submitting it through regular mail or e-mail. Choose a simple format without rich text when preparing your resume if the website uses a cut-and-paste form because such forms will not recognize HTML.

Instructions

  1. Post by File

    • 1

Prepare your resume in a Word document, including a header and sections such as Education, Work Experience, Skills and References.

    • 2

Click "File" and "Save As." Include both your last name and the fact that this is a resume in the title to help the recipient find it once it is saved to their computer (i.e. "Johnson-Resume"). Click the file type drop-down box and select "doc" or "pdf." Check the company's website first to see if it lists any specific file type preferences.

    • 3

Go to the job search or company website and click on the link to upload your resume. Find your resume in the browse box and click on it, then click "Open." Click "Upload" to post your resume to the website.

    Post by Form

    • 6

Go to the job search or company website and click inside the blank resume form. Click "control" ("command" for Macs) and the "V" key to paste the resume. Check for spacing; your sections should be separated with a double space, which might have been lost in the cut-and-paste process. Click "upload" to post your resume.
