The Bold is a type of BlackBerry that is a cell phone/personal assistant. It has a trackball used for navigating to the device's applications. The trackball can get dirty from use and this can interfere with its function. However, cleaning the dirt off a trackball is fairly simple.

      Turn off the device, pushing the red button and holding it until it shuts down.

      Dip a cotton swab in the denatured alcohol. Do not saturate the tip; use just enough to wet it.

      Wipe the cotton swab all over the trackball, getting all around the sides.

      Repeat these steps until all of the dirt and gunk is off the trackball.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use regular rubbing alcohol as it has too much water in it. Denatured alcohol is safe for electronic equipment.

  • This is the only trackball cleaning method that won't void the warranty, according to the manufacturer.
