How to Make a Free Cartoon Avatar of Yourself
Designing a cartoon avatar is an imaginative way to express your personality. There are many free web-based avatar generators. From life-like cartoon portraits to 3D animations, you can easily create an avatar that appeals to your interests.

Creating an Avatar from Scratch

Choose a free avatar creator website, such as Photo Illustration Maker.

Begin creating your avatar by selecting a “Face” template that best resembles the shape of your face. Click on one of the “Option” buttons on the toolbar and continue adding templates for your avatar’s eyes, hairstyle, nose, mouth, facial hair, etc. Depending on your chosen avatar generator, you may also have the option to add wrinkles and accessories.

Choose an image format for you avatar (i.e. JPEG, GIF or PNG). Click the “Download” button. Your new avatar will automatically open in your PC’s preferred graphics program.

Click on the “File” tab and save your personalized avatar.
Creating an Avatar from a Photograph

Choose a free photo-to-cartoon conversion website, such as kusoCartoon.

Select a cartoon template by clicking the checkbox next to your desired template.

Click the “Upload” button and upload a personal image from your computer.

Edit the cartoon colors by experimenting with the saturation, brightness, style and color options. Click the “Convert to Cartoon” button when you are finished editing the image.

Right-click the cartoon image, choose the “Save Image As” option. Name your new image and save the file as a JPEG.
Creating an Animated Avatar

Select an animated avatar generator site, such as Meez.

Select a gender for your avatar. Click on the “Face” link and choose a template that closely resembles your facial structure. Continue editing your avatar by adding templates for skin color, eye color, body type, nose shape and hairstyle.

Dress your avatar according to your personal style. Depending on the animated avatar generator you use, there may be numerous clothing templates to choose from. Double-click a template for each specific item of clothing.

Choose a type of animation for your avatar. Each animation option reflects a different activity or behavior, such as dancing, laughing, modeling, typing, etc. After you selecting an animated effect, choose a background image.

Click the “Save” button. You will have the option to download the image or export it to a blog or social networking site. Select one of the options by clicking the “Download” button or one of the social network icons, such as Facebook or Myspace.
