How to Replace a Video Card in Windows XP

Replacing a video card on your Windows XP computer is necessary when your old card is either broken or outdated. This increases the graphical horsepower of your computer, delaying the time an entirely new computer will be required to play the latest video games.       Click "Start," "Control Panel" and then "Add/Remove Programs." Select your old graphics card drivers from the list and click "Remove."

      Shut down the computer. Unplug it and remove the screws at the back of the case. Slide off the side panel.

      Unscrew your old graphics card from the case and lift it from the system. Insert the new card in its place and screw it into position.

      Close the computer and start it. Insert the driver CD that came with your new card.

      Click the "Install" button and follow the onscreen instructions (accepting the license terms) to install the drivers for your new graphics card.
