How to Tie a Computer Into My TV
Although computer screens can come in large sizes, they certainly are not as big as a TV screen. You can hook your computer up to your TV and show off your latest picture slide show, watch your favorite You Tube and Funny or Die videos or watch your downloaded movies right on your TV. Hooking up your computer to your TV is easy as long as you have the right the cords.
Things You'll Need
- Computer
- TV
- HDMI cable or VGA cable or DVI to HDMI cable or S-Video output single cable
- Audio cables
Instructions
-
HDMI Output
-
1
Take a look at your computer to determine that it has an HDMI output. The output is a small, rectangular slot with HDMI written above it. This output will need an HDMI cable.
-
2
Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the TV's HDMI input slot.
-
-
3
Plug the other end of the cable into the computer's HDMI output slot. An HDMI cable will carry both audio and sound, so you don't have to worry about any other cables.
-
4
Use the TV's remote controller to set the TV's input to the HDMI input. Turn your computer on and it will be on your TV.
DVI Output
-
5
Take a look at your computer to determine that it has a DVI output. The DVI output is a large, rectangular slot with squared holes in it. For this, you'll need a DVI to HDMI cable, as well as an audio input cable.
-
6
Plug the DVI end of the cable into your computer. Plug the HDMI end of the cable into your TV in the HDMI input slot.
-
7
Plug one end of the audio cable, typically, the black end, into your computer's audio output.
-
8
Plug the other ends, red and white inputs, into your TV's audio input slots. The slots will be color coordinated, so you'll know where to place the red and white input ends.
-
9
Turn on your computer to enjoy it from the TV screen.
VGA Output
-
10
Take a look at your computer to determine that it has a VGA output. The VGA output is a small, slightly rectangular and blue slot with circle holes in it. For this, you'll need a VGA cable. The VGA input on your TV might also be called RGB PC input.
-
11
Plug one end of the VGA cable to your computer's VGA output.
-
12
Plug the other end of the cable into your TV's VGA or RGB PC input.
-
13
Plug the audio cables into your computers audio output or speakers, then into the TV's audio input as described in Section 2, Steps 3 and 4.
-
14
Use the TV's remote control to set the TV to VGA or RGB/PC input. Turn your computer on to use.
S-Video Output
-
15
Take a look at your computer to determine that it has an S-Video output. The S-Video output slot is small and round. For this, purchase an S-Video single cable. It plugs into any TV and includes the audio cables on the same cable.
-
16
Plug the circle-shaped end of the cable into your computer's S-Video output. On that same end will be the audio output as well. Plug the audio output into your speakers or the audio output slot on your computer.
-
17
Plug the color coded cable ends, typically, red/orange, white and yellow, into the TV's color coded input. Ensure you plug the red/orange cable end into the red/orange input, the white cable end into the white input and the yellow cable end into the yellow input.
