How to Make a Bowling Bag

Every week people all over America get together for bowling leagues. Most bowling accessories do make any great statements in the fashion arena. You can give yourself a bowling m" starting with your bowling bag. Make your own, one-of-a-kind bowling bag. This bowling bag is easy to make especially since you start with a small rug. Make a sturdy and stylish bowling bag that will hold your ball, a rag, a bottle of water and any other accessories you may need to bowl your best game.

Things You'll Need

• 2-foot-by 3-foot rag rug
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Heavy-duty thread
• Measuring tape
• Dinner plate
• Marker
• Heavy-duty bag zipper
• Pins
• 2-inch-wide heavy grosgrain ribbon
• ½-inch piping

Instructions

1. Trim off the fringe 2 inches below where the fringe attaches to the rag rug. Set this aside to use later. Trim the top and the sides of the rug another 6 inches.

2. Fold the rag rug in half so the cut edges are together (widthwise). Fold in half again the other way (lengthwise). Place a dinner plate at the corners and use a marker to draw around the plate.

3. Trim the excess edges of the rag rug along the curve of the marker. Unfold the rug.

4. Pin the fringe to the rounded edges of the rag rug with the right sides together. Sew the fringe back on the rug to give you rounded fringe edges.

5. Fold the rag rug in half widthwise with the right sides together. Sew down the two sides of the rug, using the heavy-duty thread. Backstitch at both the beginning and ending stitches.

6. Measure up from the fold 6 inches on both sides. Fold the corners at the fold up to the 6-inch mark, making a triangle. Use a pin to hold the triangle in place and sew across the base of both triangles.

8. Cut two 10-inch lengths of the heavy grosgrain ribbon and the piping. Fold the piping in half widthwise and insert the piping to the middle. Sew along the ribbon as close to the piping as you can get to form the handles.

9. Pin the ends of the handles to the inside of the bag. Sew over the ends along the fringe seam just to hold in place. Leave the fringe standing up as decoration for your bowling bag.

10. Line up the zipper along the fringe seam, using pins to hold in place. Sew the zipper in place, removing the pins as you go to complete the bag.

Tips & Warnings

• Use heavy-duty quilting thread or nylon thread to make sure your bowling bag holds up for a long time.

• You can reinforce your bowling bag if you want by cutting a piece of heavy cardboard to fit the bottom of the bag. Get some coordinating fabric and a glue gun to cover the cardboard and make it look nice before placing it in the bottom of the bag.
