How to Make a Day Bed From a Baby Crib
Prolonging the life of a baby crib is easily accomplished by converting it into a stylish daybed that can be used by the occasional overnight guest or for your toddler's "big kid" bed. Most new cribs come with a convertible feature kit, but if one was not included, it's a relatively simple project to convert your crib into a daybed and get a few more years out of it. Things You'll Need
- Crib
- Screwdriver
- Screws
- Metal braces
- 2-feet x 4-feet boards
- Sheet of plywood
- Mattress
- Bedding

Remove one long side of the crib by unscrewing the screws. Once the side is off, replace the screws.

Reinforce the bed assembly, if necessary, by adding metal braces to the undercarriage with screws.

Add a sheet of plywood or a 2-feet x 4-feet box for extra support. Add a sheet of plywood or build a 2-feet x 4-feet box to fit inside the bed to support a new mattress. Attach with screws.

Lay slats across top of box and attach each slat with screws.

Wash, sand and repaint or stain the entire crib.

Place the new mattress on top of the slats or plywood.

Add pillows, a bed skirt and a new bedspread for an updated look. Add pillows, a bed skirt and new bedding for a totally updated look.
