How to Turn Off AutoFormat for Word 2007

Microsoft Word 2007 comes with an auto-formatting feature. This feature automatically changes some text as you type. A common example of auto-formatting is automatic hyperlinking for web addresses. There are several components to the auto-formatting feature. You can pick and choose which elements you want to disable, or you can turn all of them off.

      Open Word 2007 and click on the "Microsoft Office" button in the upper-left corner. Select "Word Options" from the menu.

      Click on "Auto Correction Options" to open the Auto Correct and Auto Format menu.

      Click on the "Auto Format" tab. View the options. Each option must be manually disabled by removing the check mark. Some example options include "Auto Hyphens" and "Auto Hyperlinks." Remove the Auto Format options you do not want, or all of them if you want none.

      Click on the "Auto Format As You Type" tab. Remove the check marks from the options that you do not want. Click "Ok" to close the "Word Options" menu.
