How to Replace Toner for the Laser Jet 4050N

The toner cartridge in your HP 4050N laser jet printer produces 6,000 to 10,000 pages, depending on the cartridge model. When the cartridge runs low on toner, you need to replace it to continue using your printer. You can order toner cartridges directly from HP or from an office supply retailer, and recycle the old cartridges for credit toward the purchase of replacements. The 4050N includes a toner counter. You must reset the counter every time you replace the cartridge for proper printer function.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the power to your HP 4050N printer. Lift the top cover of the printer to expose the toner cartridge.

    • 2

Grab the top of the toner cartridge and pull it straight out of your HP 4050N. Place the old cartridge aside for proper disposal or recycling.

    • 3

Shake the 4050N's new toner cartridge back and forth a couple times to distribute the toner. Pull the protective tape off the cartridge.

    • 4

Place the cartridge in the tracks inside the printer. Push the cartridge down into position until it stops. Close the cover of the printer.

    • 5

Check the display for a "New Toner Cartridge=No" message. Press the "-VALUE+" button to change the display to "Yes." Press the "Select" button to save the setting, then press "Go" to exit the configuration menu.
