How to Update the ATI Driver
Your ATI video driver is a program that allows your operating system and programs to communicate with your video card hardware. You should update the drivers whenever a new driver is released by AMD to keep your ATI video card optimized for the latest applications and games. The first step when updating your ATI video card drivers is to determine the model of video card that is installed in your computer.

Click on the "Start" menu and choose "Control Panel." Double-click the "Display" icon, then click the "Settings" tab.

Locate the display line. The video card manufacturer and card model are shown next to the monitor manufacturer and model. Write down the video card information.

Open a web browser and click on the "ATI Drivers" link located in the Resources section below to open the ATI drivers download page.

Select your system type in the step 1 drop-down menu. If your video card is part of your motherboard, choose the "Integrated Motherboard Graphics" option. Choose the product family from the step 2 menu.

Select your ATI video card model from the step 3 menu. ATI video cards drivers are grouped by series, so choose the video card model that most closely matches your card's model number. For example, if your card model reads "Radeon X850," choose the "Radeon X8xx Series" option.

Select your operating system from the step 4 drop-down menu. Click the "Display Results" button. Choose the "Download" button next the "Catalyst Software Suite" text to download the ATI installation launch program.

In the Control Panel window, double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon in Windows XP ("Programs and Features" in Windows Vista and Windows 7) and then click on "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" or "ATI Software Uninstall Utility," depending on your video card and operating system. Click "Change" or "Uninstall," then follow the instructions to completely remove the ATI drivers and software from your computer.

Restart your computer. Close out of any windows that prompt you to reinstall the video card drivers.

Double-click the ATI Catalyst Suite file you downloaded in step 5 to open it. Read the license agreement and click "Next." Follow the provided instructions to install the ATI drivers and software with the default settings.

Click "Finish" and choose to restart your computer when prompted to complete the update of your ATI video card drivers.
