Many programs exist in the software market for any given category, including Internet browsers. You are probably comfortable with one particular brand of browser and have used it for many years. If you are wanting to find Internet-related information on your computer, including cookies, a logical starting point is with the Internet browser being used, rather than searching random files on the computer. No two browsers are designed exactly alike and they can behave differently on the same computer.

Instructions

  1. Internet Explorer (IE)

      Open the IE browser window. Click on "Tools," then select "Internet Options."

      Click the "General" tab to the front, then click on "Settings" under the "Browsing History" section.

      Click on the "View Files" button in the "Settings" box to open a window showing temporary Internet files, including cookies.

    Firefox

      Open the Firefox browser window. Click on "Tools" at the top, then select "Options" from the menu to open a dialog box.

      Click on "Privacy" to bring that section into focus in the box.

      Click the "Show Cookies" button to open another dialog box showing a list of cookies organized by website. Use the "Search" box to find a specific cookie file.

    Chrome

      Open the Chrome browser window. Click on "Tools," then select "Options" from the menu.

      Click on the "Under the Hood" tab, then click "Content Settings" in the "Privacy" section.

      Click the "Show cookies and other site data" to access cookies.

    Safari

      Open the Safari browser window. Choose the "Preferences" option.
