How to Open Zip Files in Apple

Apple computers have the ability to compress and decompress files in the ZIP format built in to the Mac OS X operating system. Some advantages to compressing files with the ZIP format include saving space on your hard drive, decreasing data transmission times and overcoming attachment blocking in common email programs, according the Microsoft Office website.

      Open a window in the Finder, if one is not already open, by pressing the "Command" and "N" key.

      Double-click folders in the Finder until you open the folder that contains the AVI file.

      Double-click the ZIP archive. A status window will appear on the screen while the file opens. The unzipped file will open to the folder that holds the original file. If multiple files were included in the ZIP, a folder will appear in that location.
