How to Build a Musician Website
Building a website for a musician requires finding a way to make that musician stand out among the many musicians currently performing. It is important to preplan some of the content, including the musician's biography, tour dates, videos and photos of the musician performing and a message board for fans to talk about the musician, as well as a way to order CDs or individual songs.
Planning the website content ahead of time will help you choose a design and will make building the website go more smoothly.

1
Purchase a domain name (the Internet address fans type into their Web browsers) and hosting plan. This will make the website available on the Internet. This step requires a valid credit card or PayPal account. See Resources for a domain registrar and Web host.
-
2
Design and build the musician website with Web page development software. Many paid and free options are available; one of each is listed in Resources.

3
Add the website content to the design you have created. Videos can be uploaded to YouTube and embedded in the site; photos may be uploaded via file transfer protocol along with other content in Step 4 or added via a photo-sharing site like Flickr or Picasa.
You may choose to use a PayPal button for CD sales, create your own shopping cart or use another vendor like iTunes or CDBaby, embedding links to their applications.
You may also choose to include a fan bulletin board like phpBB or use a guest book service like Dreambook.

4
Upload the website with an FTP client (see Resources). This will move the files from your computer to the Web host so anyone with a Web browser can see the website.
