How to Make a Treasure Chest Box
No treasure hunt is complete without the treasure-filled chest. Children enjoy hearing stories about pirates sailing the seas in search of buried treasure. They are enchanted by the colorful tales about peg-legged pirates searching for the "X" that marks the spot. You and your child can make a treasure chest to use in your own treasure hunts. Paint the shoebox and lid a solid color and allow it to dry.

Apply tape to the inside and outside of one long edge of the box and the lid, creating a hing-style lid.

Decorate the treasure chest by painting on straps and detailing similar to those in the image above or decorate it with symbolic images such as a skull and crossbones.
