The Best Way to Get Cat Urine Out of Carpet
A variety of reasons might lead a cat to urinate on your carpet. The cat may not like where its litter box is located inside the house or it could simply not like the brand of cat litter being used. Another reason for urination on carpet could be a medical problem associated with the cat. Whatever the reason for the urination, the most important thing to remember in cleaning cat urine out of carpet is timeliness. Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Club soda
- Carpet cleaner or dish detergent
- Enzymatic cleaner (can be purchased at any pet store)
- Clean towels
- Cleaning sponge

Paper Towel Blot the urine with paper towels to get as much of the urine out of the carpet as possible. Do not wipe or try to rub out the urine. This will actually make the urine spread. Continue to blot with new paper towels until no more urine is able to be soaked up with the paper towels.

Towel for Cleaning Place a clean towel on top of the urine spot. Stand on top of the towel so that your weight is directly on top of the urine spot. The towel will soak up more urine due to your weight. Repeat this step with a clean part of the towel or by using a new towel until no more urine soaks into the towel.

Dish Detergent or Carpet Cleaner Spray the urinated area with carpet cleaner or add a few drops of liquid dish detergent (teaspoons if dry detergent) to a small tub of water and apply it over the affected area with a sponge or towel.

Soak the urinated area completely with carpet cleaner or the water and detergent mix and let the soaked area sit for an hour. Do not rub the area with a towel or sponge.

Clean Towel for Blotting Blot the soaked area with a clean towel or paper towels after it has sat for an hour. Again, do not rub the area.

Sponge for Rinsing Wet a clean sponge with regular tap water and gently rinse the area with the sponge.

Soak With Club Soda Soak the rinsed area with club soda and let sit for 10 minutes.

Blot up as much club soda with a dry towel or paper towels as possible.

Clean Towel Place a clean towel on top of the area and then place something heavy on top of the towel and let sit until the next day. A few ideas for heavy items would be a stack of books, a large houseplant or a piece of furniture.

Enzyme Cleaner Remove the heavy load and towel from the area and spray area with an enzymatic cleaner.
