Kill fleas on your cat and in your home with homemade flea control products.

The combination of cats and warm weather almost always means flea infestation. Flea problems are often controlled with the use of harsh chemical pesticides. If you want to keep your cats (and other pets) and your family away from these chemicals, you should treat fleas naturally. There are numerous homemade flea control products you can make yourself, most of which use simple ingredients you already have in your home. Used singularly or in combination with one another, these homemade flea products are effective in your battle against fleas.

Instructions

Kill fleas in your carpets and cat's bedding with borax. Simply sprinkle borax onto your carpets and rugs, allow it to sit for 20 minutes, then vacuum the carpets to remove the borax and dead fleas. Sprinkle borax under and onto furniture, and onto your cat's bedding to kill fleas on those items.

Create a flea trap. Place a white towel on the floor and set a pan full of water on the towel. Add a squirt of dish soap to the pan and mix with your finger. Place a desk lamp over the pan and leave the lamp on overnight. Fleas jump towards the light and land in the pan. They are unable to escape the soapy water and drown there.

Make a homemade flea shampoo for your cat. Combine 3 oz. each glycerin and dish soap, 2 oz. distilled white vinegar and 24 oz. water in a bottle. Bathe your cat as you normally would using this shampoo to kill fleas on your cat's body.

Spray your cat's bedding with a squirt bottle of equal parts distilled white vinegar and water. This kills fleas that are living in your cat's bedding.

Sprinkle diatomaceous earth onto your floors, under furniture and onto your cat's bedding. Sprinkle it around your yard and on your porch if your cat goes outdoors. You can also sprinkle it directly onto your cat. Diatomaceous earth is a fine soil with microscopic sharp edges that cut fleas and causes them to die of dehydration.
