How to Clean Silver Cups

Anya Meave

Almost everyone has tarnished silver stashed away somewhere in their homes. This tarnished silverware and cups never see the light of day because they look old and ugly. This doesn't need to happen, though, as cleaning silver can be easy.

Silver cups will shine brightly once cleaned.

Once the silver items have been cleaned, they can be used during dinner parties and special occasions, making them the center of attention.

  1. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into a bowl. Cut a golf-ball sized lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the bowl. Mix the baking soda and lemon juice together, until it creates a paste.

  2. Dip a toothbrush into the baking soda paste. Gently scrub the paste onto the silver cup in a circular motion. Scrub the paste on both the outside and inside of the cup.

  3. Rinse the silver cups under warm running water. Rub your hand over the cups to remove the baking soda and lemon paste. Buff and dry each silver cup with a clean cotton cloth to bring out the shine. Allow cups to fully dry by placing them in an open space.

  4. Allow severely tarnished cups to sit with the paste for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse the silver cups with warm water once the hour has passed and dry them with a clean cotton cloth. Place the cups on their stems or bottoms to permit the inside to dry properly.
