K9 Advantix is a prescription flea medication. Its active ingredients are imidacloprid and permethrin. in addition to fleas, K9 Advantix will also repel mosquitoes and ticks. Each dose of K9 Advantix lasts 30 days, so it is important to remember to apply the medication each month in order to continue to protect your dog. Applying K9 Advantix is fairly easy even if you have a larger-sized dog.

Get the right sized package of K9 Advantix for your dog. The packages come in different doses that are determined by the size of your dog. The larger your dog, the larger the dose that is needed. K9 Advantix is made for dogs 10 pounds and under, 11 to 20 pounds, 21 to 55 pounds, and 55 pounds and over.

Place your dog in front of you, if your dog is well behaved and will sit still for a few minutes. If not, ask a friend to hold your dog still for you while you apply the K9 Advantix.

Part your dog's fur between the shoulder blades to expose a patch of the dog's skin.

Open one K9 Advantix capsule and squeeze the entire capsule onto the dog's skin. If your dog weighs more than 20 pounds, you will need to part three or four spots of fur going down the dog's back, and use a little bit of the medicine on each spot. Make sure you use the entire capsule, no matter how many spots you apply it to.

Let your dog go. There is no need to force your dog to be still after the medicine is applied. Pet Parents, the company that makes the product, states that your dog's natural movements will help spread the K9 Advantix over the skin from where you applied it.
