How to Become a Headhunter

How to Become a Headhunter thumbnail
Becoming a headhunter requires several key elements.

A headhunter works with recruiting agencies to find people with specific skills for specific positions, whether administrative, highly technical and others. Normally, companies use recruiting agencies when looking for people who fulfill certain job requirements. The recruiting agencies will then pay headhunters to find prospective recruits who meet these specifications. A good headhunter should possess a firm knowledge of marketing, sales and research.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a professional resume highlighting any marketing, selling, recruiting, or research talents you have. The resume should chronologically list your education and work experience, especially any work you have done in human resources.

    • 2

Provide an introduction of yourself along with your resume. Highlight knowledge you have of their industry or business. Mention you can provide them with prospective recruits for any present or future job. An introduction letter is also a good way to highlight your strong points and market yourself.

    • 3

Develop a vast prospect database. This is another key ingredient for becoming a good headhunter. Make contacts within the industry to build your list. Network with industry associations and organizations. This will also give you a chance to speak with other recruiters and headhunters about potential prospects.

    • 4

Contact recruiting companies who hire specialized personnel and offer your services. Make certain you can both provide them resumes and immediate personnel as needed. Give them a specific time frame in which you can deliver prospective recruits. Make sure you meet any deadline you set.

    • 5

Show the recruiting company you have ample knowledge in contracts and negotiations. Let them know you will work hard to apply this knowledge and how having you on staff can only help improve the company's bottom line.

Tips & Warnings

  • Headhunter positions are not just a nine-to-five job, because good headhunters are on call at all times for prospects, agencies and companies.
