How to Use a Print Screen Key on a Computer

The "Print Screen" key on your computer also sometimes appears as the "PRTSC" key or the PRT SCR" key. Regardless of what the text on the key says, the key is used to copy an image from your computer screen. You can then paste this image into another document and save it, edit it or print it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a window on your computer. It can be a browser window or a system window. Click anywhere in the window from which you want to take a screen shot.

    • 2

Hold the "ALT" and "Print Screen" keys at the same time to capture the selected window. To capture the entire screen, push only the "Print Screen" key.

    • 3

Open a new document in Microsoft Paint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop or other program that can handle images.

    • 4

Press "CTRL" and "V" to past the image. You have now used the "Print Screen" key on a computer.
