      Insert the XP CD into your computer and restart the PC.

      Press any key when prompted to boot from the CD.

      Press "Enter" at the Welcome screen (do not press "R" here, as you are not trying to access the Recovery Console). Press "F8" at the license agreement.

      Highlight the drive containing XP and press "R" to repair the operating system, overwriting the faulty files causing the computer to freeze.
