How to Automatically Boot an XP Installation From a CD

Installing, repairing, or reinstalling Windows XP to your computer requires the system to be able to "boot" from the Windows XP installation CD. This prevents the operating system on your hard drive from loading, which would interfere with and prevent the installation procedure. Accomplish this by configuring your system to boot only from CD through your BIOS.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the XP CD into the computer.

    • 2

Restart the computer. Press the indicated key (typically one of the "F" keys) to enter BIOS.

    • 3

Highlight the "Boot" menu and press "Enter."

    • 4

Highlight "Primary Boot Device." Press "Enter," select "CD-ROM," and press "Enter" again.

    • 5

Highlight the other boot device entries on your system. Press "Enter," select "<none>," and press "Enter" again. This configures the system to boot automatically only from the CD.
