How to Fix GTA IV PC Errors, Crashes, Install Problems & Freezes
Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC gives computer gamers the opportunity to experience the same game that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers have had for some time. Unlike PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers, PC owners must first install GTA IV and counter all of the potential issues that can arise from the game running on a computer. To prevent the game from crashing, freezing or any other errors, you can do a few basic things.

1
Check to ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed on the game box. If your computer doesn't meet these requirements, you will not be able to run the game and, in fact, may not even be able to install it.
-
2
Install the latest video and audio drivers for your computer's video card and sound card. While this doesn't always remedy every issue GTA IV may have, it will fix many of the problems you would otherwise experience.

3
Install the GTA IV patch that Rockstar released shortly after the game's launch. When GTA IV first launched on PC, Rockstar, the game's publisher, issued a patch to fix a number of problems.

4
Adjust the in-game settings. Even if your computer meets the minimum requirements, trying to run the game at full resolution with all the graphical bells and whistles turned on can still bog down your computer to the point where the game is unplayable. You can fix this by lowering the graphics settings in the game's options menu.
