How to Disable a Windows Firewall With Group Policy

If your computer's copy of Windows Firewall is configured with a group policy, that means that it is protecting several different user accounts on your computer. If you want to disable the Windows Firewall, you will have to log in as the computer's administrator. Disabling Windows Firewall in a secondary account will only disable the utility for that account, whereas disabling it as the administrator will disable it on the entire computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and "Log Off." You will be taken to a screen containing one icon for each of your computer's accounts. Click the icon labeled "Administrator." Log in as your computer's system administrator.

    • 2

      Click "Start."

    • 3

      Click "Control Panel."

    • 4

      Click "Windows Firewall."

    • 5

Click "Turn Off Windows Firewall." This will turn off Windows Firewall on your entire computer, disabling the group policy that was in place.
