How to Build a Large Rabbit Cage
Rabbits need a cage to contain their food, bed and litter box, even in a house. Large rabbits need more space than small rabbits, and their cages can be pricey in a pet store. They also might not fit the space you have in your home. You can solve this problem by building your own to fit your specifications for a fraction of the cost of traditional rabbit cages.

- Wire storage cube pieces
- Cable ties
- Plywood (optional)
- Wood dowel (optional)
- Spring clamps
- Scissors

Lay several unassembled cube pieces on the floor to make a wall for the cage. You can make this wall as large as you need to. Attach the grid pieces with cable ties, at least two for each section. Do not tighten them completely at this point. Leave a little wiggle room.

Repeat Step 1 for the other walls. The two side walls can be a different size from the front and back walls.

Connect the four walls together with more cable ties. You can change the shape of the cage at this point, because the cable ties are loose. You can make a triangle or just an odd shape if you need to fit it into an odd space.

Slip two dowels through holes in the grid to hold shelves in the cage, if you choose to have shelves or different levels.

Place the plywood into the cage, resting it on the dowels. Be sure to leave room for the rabbit to go from level to level.

Pull all the cable ties tight and cut off the long ends. Wrap cable ties around the dowels and grids to secure them, tightening and cutting them off as well.

Decide where the door will be and cut off the cable ties on one side and the top of the door.

Use the spring clips to hold the door shut.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to put a all the touches of home into the rabbit's cage; food and water dish, a little box that can be easily changed out, toys and bedding that your rabbit loves.
If your rabbit likes to chew things, keep an eye on the cable ties. Keep them pulled tight and make sure the large locking piece is on the outside of the cage where they can't reach it.
