How to Reset a PRAM on a Mini Mac

The operating system of a Mac Mini, like on any computer, can have corrupted files that affect its operation over time. This can cause the Mac Mini to operate at less than its peak efficiency or even refuse to turn on after it has been turned off. Resetting the Parameter Random Access Memory (PRAM) settings can restore the Mac Mini to full functionality.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all of the cables, including the power cord from the Mac Mini.

    • 2

      Count up to 10.

    • 3

Press and hold in the power button on the back of the Mac Mini with one hand while plugging the power cord back in with the other hand.

    • 4

Release the power button once the power cord has been plugged back in.

    • 5

Reattach the cables to the Mac Mini. Press the power button on the back of the Mac Mini to start up the Mac Mini with the PRAM reset.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will have to reset the time, date and other system parameters after resetting the PRAM.
