How to Get a Light Ball in Pokemon
A light ball in "Pokemon" is a rare item that comes from a wild Pikachu. The light ball doubles the attack and special attack of the player's Pikachu. The light ball can also be used in "Pokemon Emerald" to breed a Pichu with the Volt Tackle ability if either Pikachu, Raichu or Ditto holds the light ball during the breeding process. Finding a wild Pikachu that holds a light ball takes time and persistence, but certain Pokemon abilities can help you find it faster.

Add one Pokemon to your party with the Compound Eyes ability, which increases the chance of finding a held item on a wild Pokemon. Add another Pokemon with the ability Frisk, which allows you to see what a wild Pokemon is holding.

Go to the Safari Zone in "Pokemon Emerald" or the Trophy Gardens in "Pokemon Platinum" where wild Pikachus can be found. Use the Frisk ability to check if the Pikachu has a light ball. If he does not, run away from the fight. Repeat this process until you find a Pikachu that carries a light ball.

Use a "Pokeball" to capture the Pikachu that carries a light ball. The light ball will now be in your possession and you may equip it to one of your Pokemon.

Tips & Warnings
To breed a Pichu with the Volt Tackle ability, you must breed either a Raichu or a Ditto with a Pikachu. This can only be done in "Pokemon Emerald."
Use a "Repeat Ball" to capture a wild Pikachu if you already have a Pikachu of your own, as the repeat ball triples your chances of catching a Pokemon if you already have one of the same breed. Use an "Ultra Ball" to capture the Pikachu if you do not have a Pikachu in your Pokemon party. Ultra Balls and Repeat Balls are found throughout various Pokemarts.
