How to Install Bathtub Taps

Instructions

  1. Replacing a Slip-On Spout

    • 1

Peer under the faucet and loosen the screw with a hex wrench. Take the tap off the copper pipe that sticks out from the wall.

    • 2

Grab the faucet in the center with your hands and rotate in a counter-clockwise position. If the spout is not coming off, cover the faucet with a cloth to prevent damage and remove with Channel lock or slip-joint pliers.

    • 3

Push the new faucet into place on the end of the copper pipe. Secure the set screw with a hex wrench. Make sure the spout is tight.

    Replacing Screw-On Spout

    • 4

Wrap the spout with a cloth to prevent damage and remove it by twisting it in a counter-clockwise direction with pliers.

    • 5

Slide a new spout onto the pipe protruding from the wall. Make sure it is straight and aligned before you secure it.

    • 6

Connect the new screw-on spout. Cover the spout with a cloth to prevent damage and wrap the teeth of the pliers and twist in a clockwise direction until the faucet is tight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Nipples or short sections of threaded pipe can attach to a pipe to make it the proper length if the new spout is a different size. It is a good idea to purchase a few different sizes to ensure the pipe is the right length.
