Installing Glueless Sheet Vinyl Flooring
Installing glueless sheet vinyl flooring is an affordable way to give your room a new look. Glueless vinyl is made with a flexible backing, making it resistant to creases and tearing. It is a forgiving product both during and after installation and stays durable even in high-traffic areas. In a small room, installation is achievable alone in as little as an afternoon. Things You'll Need
- Straightedge
- Fiberglass or acrylic double-sided tape
- Utility knife
- Quarter round or baseboard molding
- Floor roller or rolling pin

Cut your sheet vinyl to roughly fit the size of your room. Determine if you will need to seam any areas in your floor, and the placement of the seams, if necessary.

Clean the subfloor of your room thoroughly. Place fiberglass or acrylic double-sided tape made for glueless sheet vinyl in any doorways, along any seams that you will need to make and underneath any frequently moved heavy objects in the room, such as refrigerators.

Lay the flooring in your room and trim the edges, leaving an expansion joint of 1/8 to 3/16 inch around the perimeter of your room. Press the vinyl down along the tape using a rolling pin or floor roller.

Caulk the expansion joints with silicone if it is a room with sources of running water, such as a kitchen or bathroom.

Install matching quarter-round or baseboard molding around the edges of your room.

Tips & Warnings
If your floor is not smooth, use a smooth-sanded plyboard as an underlayment.
Do not use carpet tape underneath your floor.
Never tape the entire perimeter of the room. The vinyl flooring is meant to float.
