How to Remove the Keyboard on a Dell C600 Laptop

The Dell Latitude C600 is a business-oriented laptop computer with an Intel Pentium III processor and room for expansion, with slots for up to two PC cards and 512MB of RAM. Because of the the Latitude C600's age, you may find that after many years of using it, the letters have begun to chip off of the keyboard keys or that certain keys no longer pop back up with the same authority they once did.       Turn the Latitude C600 off. Place the Latitude C600 on a desk, screen side down, and remove the battery.

      Remove the Phillips-head screw holding the hard drive caddy to the Latitude C600. The hard drive caddy screw is next to two oval-shaped rubber pads. Slide the hard drive out of the computer and set it aside.

      Remove the five Phillips-head screws holding the keyboard to the Latitude C600. Two of the keyboard screws are in the center of the computer, and if the back of the computer faces you, one screw is on the left side and two are on the right.

      Turn the computer screen side up, and open the main hinge as far as possible.

      Place the flat-head screwdriver under the plain black key between the up and right arrow keys, and pry gently up until the keyboard lifts up. Stop lifting when you can see the cable under the keyboard.

      Wiggle the plastic connector holding the keyboard cable to the logic board of the Latitude C600 until it comes loose. Set the keyboard aside.

      Install a new keyboard by reversing the steps in this article.
