Building Free Websites & Web Pages

If you have a product, service or information you want to share with the world, money may be an issue when wanting to create an online presence. There are online resources that can assist you with building free websites and web pages at no cost. You may have to deal with small advertisements on your website in order for them to remain free, but the advertisements are usually small and not noticeable by your visitors.

Instructions

    • 1

Save the images that will be used on your website in a central location on your computer. Create a new folder for your images by right clicking with your mouse and selecting a "New Folder." Creating a new folder will allow you to quickly access the images when transferring them to your new website or web page. Take images using your digital camera to upload to your site.

    • 2

Write content for your website using Windows WordPad or other word processing software. Your content must include the product or service you are selling, as well as the message you would like your readers to know about you or your business.

    • 3

Register with web page creation communities that do not charge you for hosting your website. Web hosts own multiple servers that maintain many visitors (bandwidth) who come to your website as well as the memory it takes to upload your pictures and content. Use free web page communities like Wix.com or Weebly.com.

    • 4

Choose a unique name visitors will type in their browsers to reach your page. Your website address will be a sub-domain. A sub-domain is a unique web address you will make that will be attached to the main domain name of the site that is hosting your web page. For example, yournewwebpage.weeble.com is a sub-domain.

    • 5

Choose a web template for your website based on your interests, hobbies or favorite color. Website templates are pre-designed websites that allow you to add your own photos, video, music and content. Many web page creation communities offer hundreds of different templates to choose from.

    • 6

Upload your images and content to your website from the folder you created by either dragging and dropping using your mouse or clicking the "upload" button on your website template. Select the file you want to upload to your new website.

    • 7

Change the font, colors, letters and headings of your website using the editing tools built into the web page creation software online. Highlight the items you want to change and click on the color or editing toolbox to make any changes.
